PRP or PDRN? Choosing the Right Microneedling Treatment

We offer three microneedling treatments: PRP Facial, PRP Hair and PDRN. Here is how they differ and which might suit you best.

Microneedling device used at Smart Aesthetic

Microneedling on its own is a well-established way to improve skin texture, but combining it with a regenerative ingredient can take results further. At Smart Aesthetic we offer three options: PRP Facial, PRP Hair and PDRN.

How microneedling works

A medical microneedling device creates thousands of tiny, controlled micro-channels in the skin or scalp. This triggers the body’s natural healing response, stimulating collagen and elastin, and allows active ingredients to be delivered deeper than they could through the skin’s surface alone.

PRP Facial

PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma. A small sample of your own blood is spun in a centrifuge to separate the plasma, which is rich in platelets and growth factors. This is applied during microneedling to boost collagen and renewal. It is a popular choice for fine lines, acne scarring, enlarged pores and dull, tired-looking skin.

PRP Hair

The same platelet-rich plasma is applied to the scalp with microneedling, delivering growth factors directly to the hair follicles. Over a course of sessions this can help stimulate weakened follicles in people with thinning hair or early hair loss, and it is often used alongside a hair transplant.

PDRN

PDRN (polydeoxyribonucleotide) is a purified DNA-based ingredient derived from salmon. Applied during microneedling, it supports the skin’s natural repair, hydration and elasticity. No blood sample is needed, and as the skin’s hydration improves over a course of treatments it looks visibly plumper and more radiant.

Which is right for me?

  • Choose PRP Facial if texture, scarring or fine lines are your main concern
  • Choose PRP Hair if you are worried about thinning hair
  • Choose PDRN if your skin is dehydrated, sensitised or needs a boost, or if you would prefer not to have a blood sample taken

Most people benefit from a short course of treatments. At your consultation we will review your skin, hair and medical history and recommend the option that suits you best. Call us on 020 7018 7850 to book.
