Laser hair removal is a medical procedure that uses a concentrated beam of light (laser) to remove unwanted hair.
Laser hair removal is a long-term way to reduce unwanted hair, without the constant cycle of shaving, waxing or threading. At Smart Aesthetic on Harrow Road, all laser treatments are carried out with the Alma Soprano Titanium, a medical-grade laser that combines three wavelengths in a single applicator.
Each wavelength reaches a different depth of the hair follicle: 755nm (Alexandrite) works closest to the surface and suits finer, lighter hair; 810nm (Diode) targets the hair bulb in the middle layers of the skin; and 1064nm (Nd:YAG) reaches the deepest roots and is well suited to darker skin tones. Using all three together means we can treat a wide range of skin and hair types, while continuous cooling keeps the skin comfortable and protected.
Most areas of the face and body can be treated, including the upper lip, chin, underarms, arms, legs, back, chest and bikini line, for both women and men.
We start with a free consultation to look at your skin type, hair colour, medical history and any medicines you take. A small patch test is carried out on the area to be treated, and we confirm the settings that are right for your skin before your first full session.
The area is shaved beforehand and the Soprano Titanium applicator is glided smoothly over the skin, delivering laser energy while cooling the surface at the same time. Most clients describe it as a gentle warming sensation. Small areas such as the upper lip take minutes; larger areas such as full legs take a little longer.
Hair grows in cycles, and the laser only affects hairs in their active growth phase, so a course of sessions is needed. Most clients need around 6 to 8 sessions spaced 4 to 8 weeks apart, depending on the area. You will notice the hair becoming finer and sparser as the course progresses.
Mild redness for a few hours afterwards is normal. Avoid sun exposure, sunbeds, hot baths and exercise for 24 to 48 hours, use a high-SPF sunscreen on treated areas, and do not wax, pluck or thread between sessions — shaving is fine.
We use the Alma Soprano Titanium, an advanced diode laser system. Its 4cm² Trio applicator combines three laser wavelengths in a single pass, each reaching a different depth of the hair follicle, so we can tailor treatment to your skin and hair type.
The Soprano Titanium is designed to treat a wide range of skin tones and hair types. Laser works best on hair that has some pigment, so very light blonde, grey, white or red hair responds less well.
