A chemical peel is a professional skin treatment in which a carefully selected exfoliating solution is applied to remove dead and dull cells from the surface of the skin. As the skin renews itself, it can look brighter, smoother and more even in tone.
At Smart Aesthetic we use Casmara professional peels, from the Spanish skincare specialist Casmara. Peels can help with dullness, uneven skin tone and pigmentation, mild acne and congestion, the appearance of enlarged pores, and fine lines – and the type and strength of peel is chosen to suit your skin.
Every treatment begins with a skin consultation, where we assess your skin, talk through your goals and check your medical history to make sure a peel is right for you.
We assess your skin type and concerns and go through your medical history, current skincare and medicines (such as retinoids) and recent sun exposure. We then choose the most suitable Casmara peel for you and may recommend some simple skin preparation beforehand.
Your skin is cleansed and prepared, then the peel is applied evenly and left for a carefully timed period while we monitor your skin. It is then removed, and soothing products and SPF are applied. Treatment usually takes around 30–45 minutes, and most people feel only a warm, tingling sensation.
Straight after treatment your skin may feel tight and look slightly pink. Depending on the peel, you may notice light flaking for a few days. Skin typically looks fresher and brighter within about a week, and the best results come from a course of treatments.
Don’t pick or peel flaking skin. Use a gentle cleanser and moisturiser, apply SPF 30 or higher every day, and avoid direct sun, sunbeds, saunas, exfoliants and retinoid products for around a week, or as advised by your practitioner.
We use professional skincare by Casmara, the Spanish skincare specialist, for our chemical peel treatments. After your peel we finish with the Casmara Novanew Mask, a rehydrating mask designed to rebalance and moisturise the skin once a treatment has altered its natural pH.
Chemical peels suit most skin types and are ideal if you want to refresh your complexion and improve skin texture without surgery. Your practitioner will confirm that a peel is suitable for you at your consultation.
After your consultation, your skin is cleansed and prepared, the Casmara peel is applied for a carefully timed period and then removed, and your skin is soothed and protected with SPF. The whole appointment usually takes around 30–45 minutes.
Most people feel a warm, tingling or mildly stinging sensation for a few minutes while the peel is on, which settles once it is removed. We monitor your skin throughout and can adjust the treatment if needed.
It depends on the strength of the peel. With lighter peels you may see little visible peeling – perhaps some redness or dryness for a day or two. Stronger peels can cause light flaking for several days. Most people return to their normal activities straight away.
Many people see the best results from a course of around 4–6 peels spaced 2–4 weeks apart, followed by occasional maintenance treatments. We will recommend a plan that suits your skin and goals at your consultation.
