How our Alma Soprano Titanium laser works, whether it hurts, how many sessions you need and how to prepare.
Laser hair removal is a long-term way to reduce unwanted hair, without the constant cycle of shaving, waxing or threading. At Smart Aesthetic we use the Alma Soprano Titanium. Here are the questions we are asked most often.
How does it work?
Laser energy is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle, heating it and disabling its ability to regrow hair. The Soprano Titanium combines three wavelengths in a single applicator. 755nm (Alexandrite) works closest to the surface and suits finer, lighter hair. 810nm (Diode) targets the hair bulb. 1064nm (Nd:YAG) reaches the deepest roots and is well suited to darker skin tones.
Does it hurt?
Most clients find it very comfortable. The Soprano Titanium uses ICE Plus cooling to protect the skin throughout treatment, and a gradual in-motion heating technique, so it typically feels like a warm massage.
How many sessions will I need?
Hair grows in cycles and the laser only affects hairs in their active growth phase, so a course is needed. Most people need around six to eight sessions, four to eight weeks apart, depending on the area. Hormonal areas such as the face may need more.
Is it suitable for darker or tanned skin?
Yes. The 1064nm wavelength makes the Soprano Titanium suitable for a wide range of skin tones. We always carry out a patch test first and ask you to avoid deliberate tanning before treatment. Laser works best on hair with some pigment, so very light blonde, grey, white or red hair responds less well.
How should I prepare?
- Shave the area 24 hours before your session
- Avoid waxing, plucking, threading or bleaching for four weeks beforehand
- Avoid sun exposure, sunbeds and fake tan for two weeks before treatment
