Considering lip fillers? Here is what happens at your consultation and treatment, how long recovery takes and how to get natural-looking results.
Lip fillers are one of the most popular non-surgical treatments, but the best results always come from a careful, unhurried approach. Here is what to expect when you choose lip filler at Smart Aesthetic.
Before: your consultation
We start by talking about what you would like to achieve, whether that is more volume, better definition, improved symmetry or simply hydration. We look at the natural shape and proportions of your lips and face, review your medical history, and explain what is realistic. Our aim is always lips that suit you, not a one-size-fits-all look.
What are lip fillers made of?
We use hyaluronic acid dermal fillers. Hyaluronic acid is a substance found naturally in the body that attracts and holds water, which is why it creates soft, natural-looking volume. Results typically last six to twelve months, and hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved if ever needed.
During: the treatment
A numbing cream is applied first, and most fillers also contain a local anaesthetic, so the treatment is very comfortable. Small amounts of filler are placed precisely using a fine needle or cannula, and we check the shape as we go. The treatment itself usually takes around 30 minutes.
After: recovery
- Swelling and tenderness are normal and usually peak in the first 48 hours
- Bruising can happen and generally fades within a week
- Avoid make-up on the lips, alcohol, heat and strenuous exercise for 24 hours
- Your final result is usually visible after about two weeks, once swelling has settled
Natural results take patience
For a first treatment we often recommend starting with a smaller amount and building gradually. It is always easier to add a little more than to undo too much.
